Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz Vs Chris “The Hitman” Avalos
World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Featherweight champion Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz will be defending his featherweight world title against Chris “The Hitman” Avalos Saturday October 14 at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles. This fight is the main event for Premier Boxing Champions on Fox and will begin to be televised at 4:30 PM Pacific Time.
When describing how important this fight is to him Santa Cruz said, “It’s important for me to give the fans in Southern California a great fight. These are the best fight fans and I always owe it to them to be at my best”. The 29-year-old from Michoacán, Mexico is a well-known and popular boxer in Southern California. One reason being that he himself is a Southern California native; he grew up in La Puente, Ca.
The WBA Super Featherweight crown is at stake in this fight. This is the fifth consecutive time that Santa Cruz has fought to win, keep or regain his title. Of those matches he has a 4-1 win-to-loose ratio. As for his opponent Chris Avalos, this will be his first chance at a legitimate world championship title.
If Leo Santa Cruz is victorious then he will most likely fight Abner Mares next, and if also Mares wins his next match. The much awaited and highly anticipated rematch can take place as early as next year. Cruz said, “I’m prepared, motivated and focused. I need to win on Saturday so that I can get the Mares rematch”.
